 .CA domains
Author: D.Shadow   (30 Apr 07 11:57am)
I have been looking around the forums a bit and it appears
that there are some issues with country specific
domains.

Other people have already said the same thing about
.eu and .dk domains

http://www.projecthoneypot.org/board/read.php?f=7&i=121&t=121
http://www.projecthoneypot.org/board/read.php?f=7&i=114&t=114

I am having the same problem on a .ca domain

"It appears the domain you have donated has expired or
is not registered. Please ensure you have properly registered
your domain."

The domain is setup and is working and has been for quite a
long time now. I did a lookup on http://www.dnsstuff.com and everything
is setup properly.

Appears to be an issue with country specific domains is anyone
looking into this issue? Any ETA as to when it will be resolved?

Yeah. Dunno why. They used to work fine. The engineers who work on our DNS are aware there's an issue and we're looking into it. For some reason, the automatic DIG we do on the ccTLD-based domains is failing. We'll figure it out.

In the meantime, I apologize for the inconvenience.

Matthew.

This is an automated message that I am gettnig sent to me
via email. I have the domain setup correctly and all the
DNS changes have already been done and are setup correctly.

I even checked it with dnsstuff.com

http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/lookup.ch?name=mail2.darkshado.ca&type=ALL

Domain Type Class TTL Answer
mail2.darkshado.ca. A IN 7200 193.218.105.66
mail2.darkshado.ca. MX IN 7200 mx3.mapipro.com. [Preference = 0]
darkshado.ca. NS IN 7200 ns12.zoneedit.com.
darkshado.ca. NS IN 7200 ns10.zoneedit.com.

Here is the email that I got back. There is no problem
on my side it is setup correctly does this have to do
with the country specific domains not working correctly.?

Thank you for attempting to donate the following domain(s):

mail2.darkshado.ca

Unfortunately, it appears there are some problems with your donation(s). Specifically, it appears the changes you made to your DNS records are not correct. We have attempted to identify the problems for errant donation(s) below.

---------------------------------------

MAIL2.DARKSHADO.CA
In order for this donation to be effective, you must point all the name servers controlling mail2.darkshado.ca to our mail servers at mx3.mapipro.com. The specific problem we have identified with your DNS modifications for this donation is that it appears the domain which is authoritative for your donated MX Entry may have expired. It could be that we simply experienced a DNS error when we tested. However, you should check to ensure that the domain (mail2.darkshado.ca) is still registered and active.

---------------------------------------

If you need to review detailed instructions on how to modify your DNS, please visit the Manage MX Entries page on the Project Honey Pot website and click on the MX Entries for which there are problems:

http://www.projecthoneypot.org/manage_mx_entries.php

Additional questions about donating an MX Entry may also be answered on our FAQ:

http://www.projecthoneypot.org/faq.php#d

We will test your MX Entry donation(s) again over the next few days. If a test succeeds, we will mark your donation(s) as active and notify you via email. If the tests continue to fail, we will mark your errant donation(s) as inactive. If subsequently you fix the problems, you may reset a donation marked as inactive in order to begin testing again.

Your donations of MX Entries are critical in order for us to create honey pot addresses in order to identify spammers. Thank you again for contributing to Project Honey Pot.

So what is happening with this why did I get that email sent to me I do have the MX record setup right for the subdomain I am attempting to donate.

what gives? whats the solution to this problem?

Does this have to do with the country specific domains not
working properly on the server side?

I have everything setup but I am still getting that email

can some one please help me?

Something is wrong on our end where certain ccTLDs (country specific top level domains) are not validating correctly. We're not sure what the problem is but we're looking into it and should have an answer soon.

 Re: .CA domains

Ok. We're tracking the problem down.

Turns out that if you run either of these commands:

dig blah.domain.bg ALL
dig blah.domain.bg

For some domains (mostly ccTLDs) you'll get NO name server records, even when they actually exist. Why? We don't know, but those are the commands we currently use to test whether a domain has been properly configured for donation.

If you run:

dig blah.domain.bg MX

Then you get the correct records. Why? Again, no idea. Maybe the name servers are setup to only respond to specific record type queries for some reason.

We're rebuilding the checking code to incorporate this specific test. May take a little while, but we'll get it working.

Sorry for the trouble.

Funny I am still getting these emails sent to me

I assume the DNS issue on your side has not been
fixed yet? Can some one let me know when it is
so I can resubmit the test again?

Again the DNS is configured for the subdomain
mail2 and the one and only MX record points towards
your mail server from what I can see everything
is setup correctly again I did a dig and everything
appears correct.

is there anyway some one could manually validate
this entry for me and get the donated MX working for
me please?

Bellow is the email I recieved.

Thank you for attempting to donate one or more domains to Project Honey Pot. Unfortunately, it appears you have not correctly modified your DNS records that govern at least one of your donated domains. We have tested the following domain(s) several times over the last few days and unfortunately we are still experiencing problems:

mail2.darkshado.ca

Because the DNS continues to be incorrectly configured we have marked the above domain(s) as INACTIVE. If you believe you have fixed the problems you may reset the donation at the control panel on the following page:

http://www.projecthoneypot.org/manage_mx_entries.php

After you have reset your donation(s) we will begin testing again to ensure proper configuration. If you have more questions on donating an MX Entry you may find answers on our FAQ page:

http://www.projecthoneypot.org/faq.php#d

Project Honey Pot depends on your donation of MX Entries in order to create honey pot addresses that spammers cannot recognize. We hope, therefore, you will take the time correct the problems and reactive the domain(s) listed above.

Thank you for helping with Project Honey Pot!

ALL is not recognized here as a valid query type passed to dig. (DiG 9.5.1-P1)
ANY may be what you mean ?

However I'm lurking this topic because 95% of the times I'm unable to register subdomains of ccTLD's for donations, although I'm the owner, the 2 DNS servers are alive and respond fast. The rejection message is almost immediate when I click on the button labeled 'submit_form'.

Rejection message (slightly edited to defeat bots, X means dot)::
ATTENTION
•The domain (europeXdmmailXeu) you have attempted to donate does not appear to be registered (or at least we were unable to query its DNS Records -- if this is the case you may want to double check that its records are valid). You can only donate domains that have been registered and for which you are currently the rightful owner.

Wow, so this is still broken after over two years? I'm trying to donate some subdomains within a couple .ca domains, and running into this problem.

So much for the FAQ entry that says, "Spam is an international problem and we need to work together in order to fight it. Anyone is welcome to join Project Honey Pot." Guess not.

 Re: .CA domains
Author: R.Toshare   (29 Jun 09 4:53pm)
I am also trying to donate subdomains with .ca, and ProjectHoneypot can't seem to find them.

I first got an email saying this (edited for robber-bots, <.dOt.> is a period):
----------------------------------
Unfortunately, it appears there are some problems with your
donation(s). Specifically, it appears the changes you made to your DNS
records are not correct or have changed. We have attempted to identify
the problems for errant donation(s) below.

MAIL<.dOt.>REAGSWORLD<.dOt.>CA
In order for this donation to be effective, you must point all the name
servers controlling MAIL<.dOt.>REAGSWORLD<.dOt.>CA to our mail servers at
MX5<.dOt.>EASYMX01<.dOt.>COM. The specific problem we have identified with your DNS
modifications for this donation is that no MX record could be found
for your donated MX Entry when we performed an MX query check. It could be that
we simply experienced a DNS error when we tested. However, you should check
to ensure that the MX (MAIL<.dOt.>REAGSWORLD<.dOt.>CA) exists and can be dug: dig MAIL<.dOt.>REAGSWORLD<.dOt.>CA MX
Windows users can perform a nslookup: nslookup<enter> set querytype=MX<enter> MAIL.REAGSWORLD.CA<enter>
----------------------------------

When I tried doing the nslookup, I got the following:
----------------------------------------
Non-authoritative answer:
mail<.dOt.>reagsworld<.dOt.>ca canonical name = mx5<.dOt.>easymx01<.dOt.>com

easymx01<.dOt.>com
primary name server = ns45<.dOt.>domaincontrol<.dOt.>com
responsible mail addr = dns<.dOt.>jomax<.dOt.>net
serial = 2007041800
refresh = 28800 (8 hours)
retry = 7200 (2 hours)
expire = 604800 (7 days)
default TTL = 86400 (1 day)
-------------------------------------------

Now, I have never set up a mail server before, but I do believe that my nslookup results are returning that ProjectHoneypot mail server at mx5<.dOt.>easymx01<.dOt.>com. So I think I have the mx set up right, although I am not 100% sure.

Any thoughts? Is this an ongoing technical bug on ProjectHoneypot's part, or is this simply classic PEBCAK? If so, any advice?

thx
