 no email address on page

Hey everyone,

I have installed a honeypot (www.mrfb.org.au/memberlist.php) but don't see the email address at the bottom. I can see the email address in the source code, but not on the page.\

When looking at the example page on this website I can see what should be there.

This happens using FireFox and also when I checked with IE.

Any ideas?

I went to edit the original message in this thread (to add URL - www.MRFB.org.au/memberlist.php) and received the following error:

Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /home/hpot/sites/prod_hp/include/hp_top.php:5) in /home/hpot/sites/prod_hp/board/edit.php on line 110

I know the ASP fix - response.buffers=true :o)

Don't worry, your experience is normal. While we show the email address on the example page just to give people a general idea, we generally hide it from human visitors on the actual honey pot pages. We do this to minimize the chances that an overly ambitious user will accidentally send to it. We have a whole host of ways of hiding the email address. We've tested these methods with current harvester programs and the email addresses are always picked up. If harvesters begin to adapt, we'll adapt to them.

Thanks for your support of Project Honey Pot.

heh...I'll just create my own long thread here :P

I just noticed why I can't see the email:

style="display:none;"

I assume this is to hide the email from humans...

Yep. But looks like you found a good bug in our Message Board system. We'll look into that....

I've just installed the perl version on 2 seperate domains, and am looking at the source code and it says

<a href="mailto:" style="display:none;"></a>

Is there some kind of waiting/validation period before it actually puts email addresses in there?

I just checked your honey pot and it's working perfectly.

We don't hand out email addresses to some visitors under certain conditions. While I don't want to go into too much detail here in a public forum, the most likely cause is that your honey pot is being accessed from the same IP address on which it's been installed. Often people use link checkers or other bot software on their own servers. We also want to minimize the risk of abuse if a spammer installs one of the honey pots.

But, rest assured, if the legal text appears then your honey pot is active and behaving perfectly. Just make certain you add links to your existing web pages (you can follow the Linking Instructions) and you'll soon be catching harvesters!

Welcome to the Project.

Thanks M.Prince.
Glad it is operational.
