Settinh up a honey pot on a home server dedicated to just that?

I have a custom built home pc that could easilly run a server in a vmachine, the system is up almost 100% of the time - only taken down for hardware repair/replacement.
Would it be of any use the community if i set up a honey pot on that vmachine through a simple 'out of the box website' application and set some bait with one of your honey pot scripsts? I'm quite sick of spam and my spare cpu cycles and bandwidth
could be better used.

If so what OS would you reccomend and what language would be prefered for the honeypot script.
