making quicklink invisible in a signature
Author: S.Heller   (15 Oct 08 5:39am)
i have a poetry forum, admin access only to a style sheet set-up ...

i've tried various html codes to make the quicklink invisible in my signature, which appears at every post i make; however it just won't go unseen.

i've tried using different versions of the code as i thought the arrowed i-tag commanded this but it stays visible ...

i've also tried making the font white to match the b/g but this doesn't work either. i'm assuming, then, that html just doesn't work in the sig.

if this is the case, does it mean that quicklink is also inoperative in this section? (i have it installed everywhere else ... just wanted it there too)

is there anything else i can do? am i missing something? apart from my marbles, that is *grin

Really is going to depend on your forum software. There's no reason that any part of an HTML-based page should not be able to apply any number of techniques in order to hide HTML content. However, some forum software limits HTML in certain areas. In this case, your signature.

Posting your QuickLink in clear text isn't the best idea. It'll probably get a bunch of human visitors checking it out. That's not ideal. Sounds like you've scattered it about a bunch of other places, though, and don't worry... the spambots will find it.

Thanks for your help with the Project!

Try making a graphic.. a 1 x 1 transparent gif. Its an old html programmers trick for spacing things on web pages. If you cant make one, you should be able to download one from most coding sites.

Put the graphic in your signature, with your quicklink as the link.

The graphic is invisible, so it wont be noticed, and your link only shows if you hover over it. BUT the spambots will find it.

That is assuming you can put linked graphics in your siggy.

Hope this helps.
