 Increasing form fill out bots
Author: W.Daniels   (24 Apr 07 5:16pm)
I have a number of forms that email the results to one of our usrs. I am getting a lot of bogus fillouts that look like they are done by a bot rather than a human. I would love some way of HonnyPot trapping these form submissions.

I am also getting a lot of mail to closed forums that only registered users can post to. I delete about 20 every 2-3 days. SpamAssassin marks them all as spam.

Yes, we've begun to do this. We call them "Comment Spammers." Our network of honey pots, installed throughout the world, has begun to track them. You can see the current list of the top Comment Spammers by visiting:

http://www.projecthoneypot.org/top_comment_spammers.php

With the launch of http:BL you'll be able to protect your website and keep known Comment Spammers off. In the meantime, I encourage you to install a honey pot or add a QuickLink to your site in order to catch some of the bots that are submitting bogus form data to you now.

Thanks!

Matthew.

I use a nice little routine to trick form fill out bots. I use a field that's labeled "homepage" but has visibility set to "none". The result is that only the non-human visitors are at all able to fill it and are therefore easy to redirect straight into the honeypot.
