 msxml3.dll not found error
Author: J.Cath   (5 Feb 05 9:05am)
trying to run on a Win2K installation and I get the following error;

msxml3.dll error '800c0005'
The system cannot locate the resource specified.
/guest.asp, line 582

Works fine on a Win2K3 box at the same hosting provider

Is there an alternative way to execute the code, or do I need to contact the ISP to get this resolved (if so, what should I be asking for) ?

[EDIT:] reading some forum posts elsewhere seem to indicate this may actually be a client thing (part of IE5.5 or IE6) ? Is it random confusion ? Can the XML parser required for the script be installed easily, safely and securely on a virtual server platform ?

[EDIT (second random thought):] it's not a firewall issue ? The server in question cannot make outbound calls (we've had issues with needing specific rules for FTP modules as well) - is there a way to test if this is the issue ?

I really, really doubt it's a browser client issue. The HTML passed back is fairly standard, if intentionally messy -- no XML or other funky stuff.

I know very little about ASP, but it looks as though a library the script needs (msxml3.dll) isn't available in your installation of Win2K. I'm not sure why that library is needed. I'll pass this along to some of the folks who worked on the ASP version of the script and see if they have a thought on what's going on.

Thanks for the feedback!

We used the Microsoft XML parser to make requests to the HoneyPot servers as ASP doesn't have access to direct network sockets. If you could have them re-install the Microsoft XML 3.0 or have them installed the latest Microsoft XML which I believe is Microsoft XML 4.0 SP2. This should fix the error.

Also as stated above we make a request from the server to the HoneyPot servers so we will need the ability to make a request through port 80.

Hope this helps!

Been searching on this for days.

I am confirming that is has something to do with a firewall.

I have access to 4 servers. 2 running Windows 2000 SBS (small business server) with ISA firewall - 2 nics. 2 servers with regular 2000 server.

The 2 with 2k server run great. No problems.
The 2 with SBS both have problems giving the c0005 error.
If you run your ASP page to do your request within the server, then it works. Not externally though. The error is always at the .send command.
