My IP has showed I've been sending spam mail, what should I do?

I just searched for my own IP address on the lookup section of this website. It said that there were several spam emails sent from my address 2 months ago. What does this mean? I'm not sure what to do!

It is hard to say from this side of the screen. I had a similar listing for my IP. Looking a the information provided with the listing I realized one of the tools I use to validate website html code also check all link found. It was of course finding the links to my honeypots and quick links to others just like a spider and following those links to make sure they were valid.

As a result my IP address was being logged as making visits to the honeypots as if I were harvesting. No emails were ever sent of course. I updated the tool to "not follow" links to my HP or quick links, added a comment to my IP address and all is well. My IP is again white listed, and remains so because I found the problem and fixed it.

You need to do the same thing. Analyze why/how the emails were sent from your IP (assuming you have a fixed IP) make sure the problem is resolved before adding a comment to your IP addresses record.

The problem could be benign like mine was or you PC could have been infected. In either case get it fixed. Good luck

My site shows as having been clean for at least three months. Why and I blocked from accessing my US site from Peru? This is ruining my travelogue! I don't think this site has a right to "spam" legitimate sites, without a mechanism for cleaning up the mess they have created. Mine is a simple travelogue site with no advertising and tons of spam protection. Why should I be punished?! I think you need to clean this site up so you don't hurt innocent people.

my ip is listed black as well.. 84.232.140.161 ...please remove it from list

I just discovered my IP shows up as blacklisted too, after trying to log into a forum for a website extension designed to block spam (ironically enough). I don't understand the post above about commenting on my IP address... does anyone have more info about how I can clear my IP? Please? :)

Without an IP can't help much. when you login, near the top left of the screen is a place to enter an IP to lookup. Enter your IP. On the next screen will be info about your IP. At the bottom of the screen is a pace to enter a comment.

I would strongly suggest you fix the problem before asking to have your IP status changed.

I don't have a static IP, and I've been blacklisted many times. I'd appreciate if someone can tell me what can I do to stop this from happening again

Without a static IP it is tough. You need to talk to your ISP. If any of the customers your ISP assigns to the pool of IPs is involved in activities that get the IP blacklisted, when you login and are assigned the same IP you will be blacklisted.

The problem is that it is the IP that is blacklisted, not the user. If several users are assigned to the same IP in rotation, all users will suffer the affects of the actions of any other user.

Not all of the following solutions are likely to be implemented:

* You could ask your ISP to ban the users that are causing the problem for all users

* You could get your ISP to assign you a static IP

* You could get a different ISP that will implement one of the first two.

I have the same issue and now i can't access my forum www.nigerian-web-masters.com freely because i'm always presented with this:

Error 403

We're sorry, but we could not fulfill your request for / on this server.

Now the funny thing is that because of the frustration of not been able to access my site and not been able to convince my isp to give me a static IP, i don't want the project honeypot thing anymore and have deleted the honey pot file from my site's control panel but i continue to see the error message above up till now. i don't know what to do again and i'm even concerned about the number of visitors to my site that this project honey pot thing may have stopped from genuinely accessing my forum just because someone else hijacked their ip and are spamming with it. Please someone should help me, i don't want to have anything to do with project honey pot again or have it monitor my site again, please.

Unfortunately you seem to have a miss understanding about the tools. The honeypot you had installed does not/did not block anyone. What the honeypot does is help identify those that harvest/distribute email addresses for purpose of spamming and help identify the spammers that use those harvested addresses.

There are other tools that you or your ISP are using to identify spammers, or comment spammers, when they come to your site and then decide to block them. SpamCop, spamhuse, and others including the honeypot project all maintain list of IP addresses based on different criteria. What the user does with the information is an other question.

Just because your server returned a "403 Forbidden" code when you try to access your site, does not mean you were blocked because of the information collected by HP. Have you followed the procedures identified above and checked what HP thinks of your IP address? That might be a first step. You could also ask you host what tools they are using to identify IPs they want to block.--

That site is running the bad behavior plugin. The support key you received is specific to that module.

Are you using http:BL within bad behavior? What do you have your thresholds set at?

What happens if you use the "Fix the problem yourself" option on that page?

Have you reached out the the bad behavior support group to see if there is a way to override the block? For example, to allow the traffic once logged in?
