 Robots and Spiders
Author: A.Holley   (17 Jan 11 1:24pm)
I want robots and spiders to be able to index my site, like Google for example.

If I have a hidden link to my honeypot, will that interfere with search engine indexing in any way? Will it ban search engines from my site?

I suspect the answer is no, based on how it works, but I wanted to make sure with a second opinion or someone who knows more than I do.

Thanks!

Obviously there are robots and there are robots. We assume that bots like Google, Yahoo or bing are "well behaved" and may follow the link to the honey pot but will not harvest any email addresses.

Don't know about who knows more but my experience with Honey Pots and quicklinks on two domains, indicate all is well. Google, bing and facebook visit, and list, my domains as you would expect and I have helped identify 10-15 harvesters issuing almost 400 spam traps and receiving ~300 spam. Those that follow the don't harvest meta command don't get snagged.

do not follow this link
