I just finished installing honeypot on http://www.howlermonkey.net/ and wondered how it worked. Sure, it runs ok, I placed links all over- even placed on in the menu where I can click it to see how it looks. A page of strange looking text came up. Well, that's odd, no email address, just a scary (to a spammer) threatening warning. So I looked at the sourcecode for the page. Ohhh.... THERE it is, commented out in the bottom! ok, anyone looking at the page will see that, and any robot doing so will inhale the page, and sniff out the email address- and save it. Nice.
No, assuming some luckless wretch sends arobot there,a nd it eats the bait, do I sue them, or does the project? and if/when they win the lawsuit, who gets the money?
