You should reach out to IA
Author: C.McCall   (31 Dec 24 11:17am)
As a member in good standing of both Project HoneyPot and the Internet Archive (IA) [at https://archive.org ] I'd like to see you two organizations get together and collaborate.

IA is a 'hand rolled' organization run by a few hundred Admins and Devs - kinda like Unspam and PH is - and they generate a massive amount of traffic (more than you know!) - I think they are #300 or there abouts - as far as worldwide web traffic goes.

What is way worse is the number of malicious actors / email addresses / IP that register with them - cluttering up their user database with spambot entries - and then go on to post Comment Spam - in recent months the Real Users Remarks are drowned out by pure Spam postings!

They HAVE a real problem - whether they admit to it or not - they NEED a reliable way to block malicious registration and Comment Spammers / Email Address Harvesters - it is out of control.

What's in it for PH you ask? They build their own servers and OS - they can Donate hundreds or even thousands of MX addresses - and they could easily place millions of Honeypots - give them enough time - they will!!! (I MEAN 10 to the Sixth!!) And a flood of data, precious data - like you have never seen before!!!

Of course a Collaboration between the 300th largest Web Site in the World - and You Giants - will require a Admin to Admin and Dev to Dev meeting of Minds. I'm only a lowly 'user-admin' - not a God Level REAL Admin - and I cannot initiate such an introduction myself - but you two organizations actually NEED each Other: and the symbiosis between you two would be dynamic! Let me be the Spark!!

Look: https://archive.org/post/2437541/simple-site-security-question I have just asked in their public forum: if their Devs have even HEARD of you people - I've stated that you DO "Work for me" - and I have wholeheartedly and sincerely recommended your services for their ongoing and immense problems of unchecked malicious registrations and further comment attacks after that fact. But I don't know if IA Admins even read their own forums - or if any of them will have the good sense to even look into / follow up upon my suggestion.

I'm - of course - hoping PH's Admins and Devs actually read their forum and realize I'm trying to bridge between two complementary needs I see you both sharing. They have unlimited resources and a great need for an intense and deep database to keep the crud on their doorsteps OUT of their Postings - you have the world's largest and most active database of malicious actors and would welcome a chance for them to make a significant dent in your resources: as well as triple the size of your database - right quick!!!

Your dashboard identifies me as in your "Top 500" users this week. It always says that. All I did was one Quick Link … and a Honeypot on 5 Domains I own. I hope there is someone there listening - and hears a cry for help. I cannot speak for IA - I have no authority there.
But they would be fools to overlook you, in their efforts to leave no security stone unturned, for their OWN site - because they were HACKED just Months Ago!!!!

I Am SURE that you two would make some beautiful music together!!!

That was awfully presumptuous of you. Being a top user on this site does not give you the authority to throw your weight around on an unrelated forum. However, I will admit that you're more enthusiastic about this project than whoever is in charge, seeing as it's seemingly been abandoned. As it stands, I don't think this site's out of date, buggy scripting is going to have much to offer IA.
