Well I followed all of the instructions carefully. I ensured that my web server, which runs Linux (hosted by Lunarpages), is running Perl (version 5.8.0, actually). The path to Perl is /usr/bin/perl - no problem there. I uploaded the script to my cgi-bin directory, and changed the permissions to 755.
When I attempt to visit the script to activate it (http://www.groovymarlin.com/cgi-bin/idylliceuphotic.cgi), I get an error (500 Internal Server error). I looked at the error log on the server and I see this (with timestamps etc., which I have trimmed off):
malformed header from script. Bad header=<html>: /home/groovy2/public_html/cgi-bin/idylliceuphotic.cgi
It seems that I did everything correctly, but it's not working for me. I did try downloading the script again, and repeating the process. Same errors.
I'll try my provider's support forums too. I'm sure you'll have a lot of traffic today after your exposure on Wired, but any feedback when you have a chance is appreciated.
