It may not sound ethical at first but his servers are cheapo bargain boxes. Anything over 1500 requests gets his attention and his SMTP server is EASY to mess with. The ISP refuses to help and my host's ISP is getting REALLY mad. My SLA is very clear, I'm responsible for the spammers. What a twist right? I do enjoy the honeypot but to be honest, it is a waste of resources. IMO were dealing with an Xrumer junkie. Still, everyone CAN ban this IP via .htaccess and many many other tricks. The old method of setting up a honey pot is pointless. In the US bandwidth is low and exspensive. Everywhere else, eslecialy the netherlands where this guy is, it is the reverse. While we can effect a Ddos it is a bad idea to let a bot take control of any virtual property and the only fix for this is blocking that specific range of IP addresses assigned to the ISP. Calculate the subnet range and block based on that. It may cut out a small demographic, but it should limit this guys reach.

This IP has rendered the Forums section on one of my sites totally useless. For some reason I can not block 213.5.71.12 either. This entity seams to use dozens of different domains & swaps them often. I would be interested in hearing what has worked against this IP.

213.5.71.12 was a persistent pain until I blacklisted it. It was hitting the comments hard on my Drupal site. Fortunately, Mollom was keeping the spam from getting posted, but the bot was making it a pain to go through the logs, etc.

Comment Spammer. It hits my site every 30 minutes or so.
In my case, it's targeting my b2evolution blog software. It tries to post directly to the comment form (loaded with bad referrers and htttp links) Mod_security2 flags it for trying to use SQL injection attacks. May 21 2010 10:31 AM |

He is comment spamming heavily. Every 45 minutes -Some auto setup. Hitting this link constantly for past week. Luckily all have been put in moderation but I am tired of the mass deletes. The referrer spamming is getting very old as well. http://flashbyz.com/blog/spam-spam-and-more-spam/

Hello, my website is regularly accessed by IP 213.5.71.12. I have written to the WHOIS contact, abuse@altushost.com, several times but they have not replied. It's worth noting that this bot doesn't use cookies and will fill in hidden form fields - two effective ways to block comment spam.
I believe it initially found my site because the landing page was called comments.htm . I make sure this IP is always re-directed to my honey pot! Best wishes - Dave. www.dave40.co.uk March 30 2010 12:10 PM |
