I have been manually blocking IPs depending on their behavior and relationship to "nearby" IPs. I intend to use the Http:BL soon but for now I get satisfaction with the hands-on method.
Having become very familiar with bad network neighborhoods I was delighted to see that wordpress.com blocks or monitors the same ranges (neighborhoods) that I have, except my list is a bit longer. China, Russia, and Ukraine are completely blocked for instance.
I just got login attempts from IP 199.15.233.137 which is from "Fort Worth Justin Downing-US. WordPress blocks Justin Downing's range 199.15.232.222-199.15.234.107. Just added it to my block list.
This IP address list on wordpress.com seems to be current and is a good reference and hey, they use Project Honeypot. Thought I would share.
