Donating MX Entries

 Namecheap DNS

So... I'm donating a MX entry.

With the new change in the Namecheap interface, I spoke with a Namecheap representative and asked them how to set it up.

I'm supposed to go to Domains List > domain.com > manage and then finally, > advanced dns > Mail Settings > Manage.

I've added the following settings:

Host: somerandomsubdomain
Mail Server: mx5.openpop3.com. including the trailing dot
Priority: 10
TTL: Automatic
Record name (friendly name): Honeypot.

However... it seems that Namecheap is not advertising the existence of an MX entry for this domain.

What is the problem here? It's frustrating because I want to help out. :/

Edit: I've been periodically checking the MX entries and these are the results I get:

C:\Windows\system32>nslookup -debug -q=mx somerandomsubdomain.heimkoma.com.

I would suggest that
Host: somerandomsubdomain
Mail Server: mx5.openpop3.com. including the trailing dot

should NOT include the trailing dot. a valid NDS does not end with a dot.

@H.User1325:

All other records for Google Apps end in a trailing dot. Those records work. However, I will try this without the trailing dot.

Looks like it's an issue with Namecheap itself. They've escalated it to their internal technical team.

Edit: As of 10:55a around Eastern time, MX entries for the domain I donated is now responding correctly as it should!

Edit: As of 12:46p, it is ALIVE!

So, TL;DR: If Namecheap isn't updating your MX entries as you should, contact live chat, have them escalate to their internal tech team. They'll fix ya up.
