Notified if I find a Honeypot with my Domain?
Author: V.Pylon   (15 Jan 05 1:20am)
Hi,

Will I be notified when my mx donated domain nails a bot? Or is that only for the people running web pages?

Just curious.

Thank you,

Vic

That's a good question/suggestion I hadn't thought of.

Currently users can choose to receive an automatic notification when their honey pot is the first to catch a previously unknown harvester. I like the idea of allowing MX donors the option to receive a similar notification. I'll talk to Lee about whether it creates any database issues (sometimes things that can seem very simple can create all sorts of pain in the database). Assuming it doesn't we'll try and get it going.

I assume you're asking because it's something you'd be interested in knowing?

Thanks for the suggestion!

Hi,

Thank you for the info. I donated a domain last night. I am just waiting for the mx update to replicate. across the dns servers. I just would like to know if I am causing spammers pain. It gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling. ;-)

Cool. We're working on it. We already changed the wording on the Settings page. In the next few days we should have the code in place to notify MX donors if their help was critical in identifying a new harvester. If you want to get a notification EVERY time one of your MXs or honey pots catches a harvester, you can change the preference on your Settings page from "First Time" to "Every Time." Or, alternatively, if you don't want ANY of these notifications, you can change it to "Never."

Thanks for the great idea!

The system is now in place so that if your donated MX creates a spamtrap email address that is the first to help identify a previously unknown harvester then you'll be notified. By default, we send this notification message out only once. If you'd like to receive it every time your resources are the first to help identify a previously unknown harvester, or if you'd never like to receive the notice, you can change the preference by visiting your Settings page.

Thanks for the great suggestion!
